Fun with Dashiki Fabrics

We are excited to share a short video with you from one of our followers – pinkchocolatebreak , who is sewing up a storm, and using one of our favorite fabrics… Dashiki. Before you watch the video and learn how to make your very own Dashiki dress or shirt, here is a little history on this colorful African fabric.

While Dashiki is a type of fabric, it is most commonly known as a colorful garment for both men and women. Widely worn in West African nations, the Dashiki in its informal version is a simple draped clothing designed to cover the top half of the body. A common form is a loose-fitting pullover garment, with an ornate V-shaped collar.

The name Dashiki is derived from the Hausa word ʼyar̃ ciki, which means shirt.

Now that you know a little more about this beautiful fabric, we invite you to watch this video to learn how you can make your very own Dashiki at home. You can find Dashiki fabrics right here at More Love Mama, simply click: HERE
